Lemay roofing, at a glance

A lot of Lemay houses are compact brick or frame homes from the first half of the last century, and their roofs often hide plank decking, patched valleys and chimneys that have not been reflashed in decades. We check for all of that before giving you a price. Call (314) 429-6000 at any hour.

Older Lemay homes, specific roof issues

The age of the housing here shapes almost every estimate we write.

Board decking was standard on homes of this era. Boards shrink and leave gaps, and some have been nailed through so many times that they no longer hold a fastener. When we tear off a Lemay roof, we plan for re-sheathing where the boards cannot hold new nails, and we put it in the estimate so it does not come as a surprise.

Ventilation on these houses is often an afterthought. Some have a single gable vent and no soffit intake at all, which traps moisture in the attic through the winter. Where the framing allows it, we add intake and ridge exhaust during the reroof so the new shingles are not cooked from below and the decking stays drier.

Valleys are another weak spot. Many have been patched with roofing cement more than once. On a repair, we cut out the patched area and rebuild it with ice and water barrier and new shingles or metal, depending on what the rest of the roof uses.

Lemay Roofing Contractor questions

My roof has old board decking. Is that a problem?
Not always. If the boards are solid and tight, they can stay. If they are split, gapped or will not hold nails, we replace them with new sheathing before the new roof goes on.
Can you fix just the leak around my chimney?
Yes. Chimney flashing is one of the repairs we make most often on older Lemay homes.
Do you work on detached garages?
Yes. We repair and reroof detached garages and sheds, and we can do them at the same time as the house.
Is there a charge to come out?
No. Inspections and estimates are free.
What warranty do I get?
A lifetime workmanship warranty from us, plus the manufacturer warranty on the shingles.
